Businesses—Getting Started

Building a trusted relationship with your organization involves meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders, as well as mitigating the fiduciary responsibility of the individuals entrusted with the ongoing management and supervision of the investment assets.

The following steps are important in establishing a long-term, mutually rewarding relationship:

Presentation of Investment Management Services

In most cases, we are asked to present an overview of our services to your organization's investment committee. It is important to establish a correlation between the goals and objectives of your organization and our investment philosophy and approach. This initial meeting also provides each member of the investment committee with the opportunity to ask questions and scrutinize our decision making process.

Define Investment Objectives and Risk Guidelines

If not already in place, we work closely with your investment committee to define realistic investment objectives and risk guidelines that support the goals of the organization.

Development of an Investment Strategy

With an understanding of the investment objectives and risk guidelines, an appropriate investment strategy will be selected for the portfolio. We will re-evaluate the appropriateness of the strategy should the goals or objectives change.

Investment Policy Statement and Investment Management Agreement

Either as a supplement to an existing policy statement, or as a stand-alone document, we will develop an Investment Policy Statement outlining the asset allocation ranges, and an appropriate investment benchmark for the portfolio. We will also jointly execute an Investment Management Agreement - a legal document defining our relationship.

Portfolio Implementation and Ongoing Management

We will transition the investment assets of the organization into the new investment strategy, as outlined in the Investment Policy Statement. Moving forward, we will monitor and adjust the portfolio as needed based on our tactical asset allocation decisions and investment manager due diligence.

Portfolio Reporting and Reviews

Our quarterly reporting package will outline the portfolio's holdings and performance versus its benchmark. We will also provide our quarterly client newsletter, which discusses our market outlook and current thinking. In addition, we will frequently participate in investment committee meetings to review the portfolio and provide investment market updates .
