Who owns the Bank of the Ozarks?

The bank began with a community bank in Jasper, Arkansas in 1903. In 1937, it expanded to a 2nd location in Ozark, Arkansas.

Bank OZK is owned by George Gleason, a lawyer specializing in banking at the Rose Law Firm. The man bought the company in 1979 when it had $28 million in assets and renamed it to Bank of the Ozarks.

Chief stockholders include SSgA Funds Management, Inc., The Vanguard Group, Inc., and BlackRock Fund Advisors.

How to open an account with Bank of the Ozarks?

You can open a checking account or a CD on the bank’s website, and you can also open accounts in a physical branch. For this, you’ll need money to meet the minimum opening deposit requirement for the requested account and identification like a driver’s license or ID card. You’ll also need to provide your Social Security number and your address.

Is Bank of the Ozarks FDIC insured?

Yes. Your account at Bank OZK is insured to the maximum amounts allowed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

How can I save more money with Bank OZK?

The highest interest rate available at the bank is for the 24-month CD at 0.45% APY, which isn’t high. If you’d like to earn high interest and save more money, you may need to search for another bank.

The MaxYield checking account earns at a 0.05% rate, which is not bad for a checking account. As long as you avoid the monthly fee, this option could be attractive for you.

Conclusion: Is Bank of the Ozarks a good bank?

This bank offers multiple deposit accounts that are accessible both in-person and online. You can easily waive monthly service fees (with the exception of the Bonus Checking account). If you live in one of the areas serviced by the bank and you prefer an in-person experience, Bank OZK could be a good option for you. If you’d like to maximize your saving potential and get the best rate possible, then this company probably isn’t best for you.

It’s sad that almost every time I want to access my bank account online, it’s always down! The bank is average, nothing special. The employees are nice and friendly. But their online banking is horrible since one can rarely use it because it won’t work.

The staff is always friendly and very professional in taking care of customers. Fast service, no queues. The app works well when I cannot access a branch. I have 2 checking accounts there (business accounts) and will continue to recommend this bank to every person I know. You should give them a try.

Please do NOT use their services! Waste of time especially when you are trying to check your balance online. Please walk away.

They have the best customer service ever. They always know your name and make you feel a VIP person, which I appreciate. Every bank should treat its customers this way. I’m very happy with this bank and will never refuse their services unless some-thing really changes.

They have the worst app ever. Half the time I can’t access the app, and when it lets me in, it won’t navigate from the home account page to the transactions. It gets worse with every update. Horrible app.
